Biker's Tale:

I continued away from the bustling metropolis of Parma, Idaho westward along Hwy 20. If I have come away from today's adventure with any impression at all it would have to be that Oregon is big! I mean really big. You wouldn't believe how vastly, hugely big it is. (Thank you, Douglas Adams).

The towns between Vale and Burns are small and are separated by big expanses of plains-type desert and I'm not talking vanilla ice cream here (that would be plain-type dessert). There's a whole lot of nothing out there...

Speaking of consumption, I had a terrible meal at Worst Food in Oregon...

While I was there, I met up with another biker (Tom) who is also doing the Grand Tour. Turns out he's the webmaster for Rose City Motorcycle Club. I thanked him for his efforts because I used their web page to find out about this event. He ordered dead cow and I ordered dead chicken. Like I said, it was the worst thing I'd ever tasted. I highly recommend it.

I was wondering if the restaurant had survived but you see it pays to tell the truth, terp. A Wall Street Journal reporter years ago visited the The Worst Food in Oregon out near Stinking Weed Creek (or some such name) to see if it could really be. Asked the proprietor his advice on ordering and was advised to order someplace else. The reporter assured readers the chef's advice was excellent.

Should you survive the eats and heat and dust and loneliness and finally get to Vale, you could ask the Basque sheriff of all of Malheur County where UGTH's operations are. He might know everybody in one huge county but I bet he won't know where UGTH plans to make a fortune in the county named misfortune by the French. Oh, the sheriff will know where the mushroom farm is that uses geothermal energy but he will probably know what the State of Oregon says about geothermal power:

Other exploration has occurred near Vale and in the Alvord Dessert near Borax Lake. The latter site is no longer feasible due to the risk of harm to the endangered Borax Lake chub. The exploration at the Vale site failed to locate a geothermal source adequate for generating electricity.

I am kinda betting UGTH is right and the whole damn state and probably the sheriff too is wrong just as locals were about the ability of The Worst Food In Oregon to survive long where all others had failed.

The market thinks otherwise, if it even knows. The main operation is near the Raft River in Idaho, which hardly anybody knows about and especially rafters don't.

What's the point of all this besides unholy pumping of a worthless stock?

Kinda nice to have other folks that know about hidden treasures like BIPH. Love to talk to someone, anyone, anywhere about UGTH and whatever the hell they think they got in Malheur County named for Misfortune but bikers aren't real good about talking to you unless you own a bike too. The management of UGTH might be bikers too. They don't seem to want to talk. Wish at times they were into PR like BIPH. Then somebody, somewhere would know about UGTH.

Best, Terry
