Yes, I find cosmology fascinating too. Here's a map of the universe to help visualize the features

This is a 2-D map. An actual map would necessarily be plotted as a sphere. This one is 14 billion light years* from center to outer rim (the rim at a distance corresponding to the age of the universe)with 100 billion plus galaxies scattered and clustered within the 3-D sphere. The sun and the Milky Way are normally represented as being at the center of the sphere. The supernova seen in the far off galaxy would be located near the outer edge of the sphere (actually about 13/14 of the way there).

I like this map because it allows you to zoom in and see various features of the cosmos on different scales.

* The actual diameter of the universe is thought to be 93 billion light years. The map above is faulty as it's based on an earlier erroneous premise. The following write-up explains the reason why the universe is thought to be larger than 14 billion light years. Even in this picture, the supernova would be located 13/14th of the way to the rim.
